The Würth Group has invested in warehousing and logistics at its location in Arlesheim, Switzerland and has inaugurated a new logistics centre in St. Petersburg.

Cutting-edge logistics at Würth Switzerland

Würth AG, one Swiss branch of the Würth Group, is investing over €10 million in modernising the warehouse and logistics in Arlesheim.

The construction work on what Würth said will be a state-of-the-art warehouse is set to be completed by summer 2018. The warehouse was originally built in 2003 and post-revamp will be well equipped for many years to come, the firm said.

Packages and pallets with assembly and fastening material, hand tools and power tools, chemical products, and workwear are sent from Arlesheim to professional tradespeople across all of Switzerland. In the year 2016, around 386,500 packages and 8,385 pallets, corresponding to a total weight of 4,796 tons, were shipped by the end of November. And this figure continues to grow.

“Quality is our topmost priority,” said MD Marc Baumgartner. “That holds true for both our products and our service. Of course, this includes deliveries: Würth customers should receive their ordered goods as quickly as possible and in a single shipment whenever possible.”

Warehouse capacity is being increased to 17,000 items as part of the modernisation process. A container shuttle is being installed for approximately 18,000 containers, and the picking and conveyor technology is being renovated. In the future, it will be possible to process more orders in a shorter period of time. As a result, orders that are received in the warehouse late in the afternoon will be processed on the same day and the customer will receive the items as early as the following day.

Würth added: “This investment demonstrates a strong commitment to the location in Arlesheim and to the surrounding industrial area “Im Tal,” where Würth AG Switzerland is firmly rooted with Forum Würth Arlesheim as well.”

Roughly 200 workers are employed at Würth AG Switzerland in Arlesheim in the fields of warehousing/logistics and administration, as well as at the craftsman shop and Forum Würth Arlesheim. Approximately 400 Würth employees work as salaried sales reps throughout Switzerland.

New logistics centre at Würth Russia

At the end of 2016, Würth Russia celebrated the opening of a new logistics center in St. Petersburg. The new building, located in an industrial park on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, is 14,000 square meters in size, including a 1,000-square-meter chemicals warehouse and 2,000 square meters of office space. From this site, the company can supply customers all over the north-west region of the country.

Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Würth and his wife Carmen Würth attended the ceremony together with Dr. Reiner Specht, Deputy Member of the Central Managing Board, and the managing directors of the other Russian companies in the Würth Group.
