A Perry has invested over £3.5 million into a new facility in Cradley Heath, West Midlands.
The new distribution centre has increased the company’s capacity to over 14,000 pallet locations and will improve services to UK and international customers, the firm said. Also included in the new facility is a two storey office space for a call centre and administration, two large manufacturing units, a 90,000 square feet state-of-the-art purpose equipped warehouse and distribution centre, a loading yard and car parking.
The call to move came following a sustained period of growth. Over the last five years, the continued expansion of the company had put increasing pressure and demands onto the site they had owned and operated for over sixty years in Cradley Heath. Customer numbers have increased thanks to depth of product range and reputation for quality and service, the firm said.
To continue their growth major investment was required, either on the current site, a 45,000 sq. ft. site on Doulton Road the company had operated from since 1953, or into a completely new site. A new site was found, literally next door to them, when a neighbouring company chose to relocate.
“Confidence is high”
“While others in the market place are showing concern at this time of economic uncertainty, here at A Perry our confidence is high as we continue to grow and invest for the future, ” explained Guy Perry, Managing Director at A Perry.
The directors at A. Perry maintained their confidence and took the decision to make major investments in the future by purchasing and developing the new site.
“Our state-of-the art distribution centre will dramatically improve dispatch services to UK and overseas customers and I couldn’t be more proud and pleased, our capacity has increased to in excess of 14,000 pallet locations (10,000 tonnes). It is incredibly exciting to be expanding, creating new opportunities and continuing to be a part of the community around our factory.”
Guy Perry added: “We are delighted with our new facility in Cradley Heath, West Midlands. This exciting expansion of the business recognises the continuing commitment Perry has made to the local area, its staff, and most importantly of all its customers.
“The new facility demonstrates the importance Perry places in providing its current staff with the best working environment possible, and provides the capacity needed to expand our workforce even further.
“The new site was planned to be future proofed to meet our continuing growth, but the continuing level of growth we are experiencing is even at this early stage making us look at ways we can expand the manufacturing and warehousing.”
Growth plan
The A Perry MD concluded: “We’ve invested heavily in developing our distribution network and in creating a range of customer focused services. Our ongoing investment will allow us to continue to deliver a first class service to businesses and their customers for years to come. A Perry is justifiably proud of its Black Country roots. Retaining their roots in Cradley Heath and The Black Country, the development of the new offices, manufacturing and distribution centre will play a key part in the Perry five-year growth plan in line with the company’s 2021 vision to become even closer to customers, and maintaining its presence in the community.”
